An overview of our training
LGfL's Mental Health and Wellbeing training has been updated to reflect the current situation and latest research.
You can find more information on our website by visiting mhwb.lgfl.net and clicking on the individual sessions.
All sessions are online, and to make our sessions more accessible this year, there is a morning option starting at 9.30 and an after-school option starting at 15.30, and all sessions are repeated a second time during the academic year.
What makes this year's training stand out?
The training this year has been titled as a masterclass, as we recognise that many delegates have attended the training in the past and already possess a high level of skill and are now looking for advanced guidance.
These sessions are still suited to new delegates who are interested in understanding more about creating a school environment that supports the mental health of all, and past attendees wishing to refresh their knowledge, learn new approaches and feel totally supported in nurturing a well-being community.
What are the benefits of attending LGfL's training?
A new addition to the offer from LGfL this year is the termly free Mental Health and Well-being forum. This is a peer network where, with other mental health and wellbeing leads, you can share challenges and solutions relating to supporting pupil mental health and wellbeing. Very similar to the very successful LGfL SEND DSL forum.
How can the forum support me in my role?
These termly, hourly meetings will provide an opportunity for you to network and explore mental health and wellbeing themes prevalent in schools. Our conversations will focus on practical support, offering a chance to exchange good practices and discuss challenges across settings in a supportive and informative forum setting.
Wellbeing Forum number 1 on November 13th at 15.45 - 16.45 will be covering the topic of EBSA - Emotionally Based School Avoidance.
Wellbeing Forum number 2 on Thursday, 12th February 2026, discussing Comparative Culture and Body Image.
Wellbeing Forum number 3 on Thursday, 14th May 2026, discussing Supervision and coaching Cultures in schools.
Don't forget to look at the LGfL resources for staff around the subject of mental health and wellbeing, found here, alongside recommended resources from other organisations.
The LGfL resources are:

Wellbeing Connected - Comprehensive, free-to-access training tool developed for school staff to build confidence, understanding and skills to support mental health and wellbeing in their community.
Healthy Minds - Materials designed in partnership with Young Minds to support staff and young people to gain a better understanding of mental health and related issues, and to help build resilience to prevent mental health issues from developing.
