In 2022, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service. We hope many schools are getting involved in celebrating Her Majesty’s historic reign.
The Government have set up a dedicated site - The Queen's Platinum Jubilee 2022 and the royal family also have a dedicated Jubilee website. There will be many events and activities celebrating the Jubilee across the UK Commonwealth and beyond in the months leading up to the special extended bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June 2022. Look here for events near you.
You can explore ready-made templates by visiting the Busy Things Special Events tab (June) at "Queen Elizabeth's Jubilee" as well as visiting LGfL's The Platinum Jubilee site; to access these resources you will need to login to Busy Things.
Busy Things have provided a range of activities in the Jubilee section where you can make your own placemat/bunting, writing project, labelling activities, colouring sheets, paint a portrait of the Queen, quiz, royal line up game and they also have provided a printable activity pack. Some of these activities are shown in the images below:
The Busy Things Team have also recently published a blog about their activities.
We have a host of LGfL-curated ready-made Just2Easy j2e templates (as shown in the image below).
These activities can be accessed by our Let's Get Digital subscribers; they include: create a Coronation Crown; Queen Elizabeth II timeline (see template below); create Jubilee bunting/postcard/portrait/factfile/flag; create a celebratory animation and code it; write a Jubilee poem and explore a Commonwealth database. (Example of one of the templates pictured below).
Adobe Creative Cloud Express can also be used for a whole host of activities. The Tablet Academy Team have put together, not one but two, pdfs with suggested activities. (1) Queen's Platinum Jubilee Resources and (2) Commonwealth Games Resources.
The Queen's Platinum Jubilee has the following activities: coin design; medal design; Coat of Arms; cake topper design; timeline; bunting; Pecha Kucha (presentation); news report and design a website.
The Commonwealth Games pack: commemorative coin design; design a Commonwealth medal/logo/T-shirt/poster and create a website.
Click on the red hyperlinks above to download the pdfs (screenshots shown below) and/or each of the Platinum Jubilee activities can also be found on our The Platinum Jubilee site.
We also have a pupil art competition in partnership with the Royal Collection Trust; across the following age categories: 4-5, 5-7, 8-11 and 12 years or above (in full-time education).
Portraits bearing a clear and recognisable image of the sovereign are required for use on coins, banknotes and stamps but can also be abstract and explore many themes such as royalty, power, sovereignty, and patriotism. Therefore, we would love artwork submitted showing crowns, corgis and of course Queen Elizabeth II herself throughout time. If you are interested in entering your pupils' work for this competition please click on the form to submit entries, you will also find further details here. (The Google form can also be accessed on The Platinum Jubilee site).
